Lightroom 3 is available now and many people are thinking about how to migrate from version 2 to 3. The upgrade of the application is very simple, but most photographers are most concerned about their catalog of images and what that means. I found a very good article that covers the topic and here is the link.
Here is the short version:
1.) Buy the software
2.) Backup your source image directory and all Lightroom catalogs in at least one place and two if you have the hardware.
3.) Install the new software and simply follow the prompts.
4.) Upgrade your Lightroom catalogs one at a time.
5.) Leave the Lightroom 2 app on your computer for a while in case you need it for some reason and put a reminder on your calendar to review in a few months.
6.) Start using Lightroom 3!
The upgrade is available for $99 and here is a list of new features.
To view videos on the new features and upgrades visit the Lightroom 3 Learning Center.
If you don’t already use Lightroom, you can download a trial from Adobe.
I will be upgrading my systems this week and I will post anything here that I think you should know.
